I was going to wait until tomorrow, but I’ve got a little “Christmas morning” syndrome going on at the moment and I simply can’t wait. Just arrived in the mail 10 minutes ago…
Nice.
The front
And this is the actual card it produced, just for reference.
This is my very first printing plate. I’m super excited to have one, especially for my boy, Danny Bard. This thing looks awesome. This shoots right to the top of the permanent collection, and I just couldn’t wait to show it off.
…and why is the plate reverse image, Matt? You should know this!
>>>QUIZ TIME<<<
Well…. since you asked ;P
It depends on if they’re using offset lithography or CTP, but essentially the ink and/or emulsion sticks to the roughen (darker) ares and is repelled by the lighter areas by water (or solvent) when the ink is applied. So, to get a correct image, you need to print the colors (and the image) in reverse.
Also, instead of directly applying the ink to the paper, the plate transfers the ink to a rubber cylinder which in turn applies the ink to the paper. So, it’s correct in a press plate, reversed on the printing plate, and then correct again on the final product.
Nice! I do not have a printing plate either. Looks like bard was pitching in the Trop so nice little Rays/Sox connection.
sweet get!
