I’m you’re typical privacy/freedoms freak. This made my head spin. You can all stop calling me paranoid now. I’ve been proven right. It’s all going to hell and we’re all in deep, deep crap. And it gets even better. Now they’re trying to pass them off as a “life saving device” that can help combat terrorism. I would start mentioning conspiracy theories, but I don’t think I really need to. Sleep tight.

Dude. I’m there with you. I’m tired of being called paranoid. This stupidity creeps in SO slowly that most people (read: stupid SUV driving, Big Mac munching, “Friends” watching drones) don’t see it until it’s far too late. And even then, they say “It isn’t all that bad, at least we live in the land of the free!” Pfft.
Wait a second, don’t you carry a Mobil Speedpass? That’s the same technology as RFID’s. Anyone with a powerful enough transmitter/receiver can track your every movement by it. Oh, and if your car is like mine and has “smart” keys, those have RFID chips in them too.
You can’t fight it. The technology is everywhere.
DOOOM!!! DOOOOOOOOM!!!!!
rfids are cool tech man. imagine being able to check your groceries out in seconds. no hand scanning required!
besides, what’s wrong with allowing “life saving devices”. The only people that would object to these sorts of things are those that have something to hide. Do *you* have something to hide? 😉
DOOOOOOM!!! DOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!
Life saving! Ahahahahah! What “they” are defining life saving is merging RFID tags with “quality” sensors on things like milk so that you know if it’s gone bad before you buy it. Then they ramble on about how this could be life saving if the terrorist take control of our precious milk supply. I’m serious. And as for checking out instantaneously from a grocery store that would mean that I would have to either give the grocery store my bank account information so they have it on file and/or carry around a transmitting device that would broadcast my information to the checkout station. Not happening. Even only the cart was scanned and not me, I’d still rather have them scan things individually and have it take a few minutes. Plus, the stores would have an actively broadcasting list of whats in my cart AS I shop so they can be sending me the appropriate ads to go along with them. Hey Mr. Perry, you just picked up some peanut butter, just to let you know Peperidge Farms bread is half off today on isle 5. No thanks. I’d rather not have anyone know what I’m buying. What if I’m picking up something for athletes foot, indigestion, diarrhea, condoms or etc. I don’t want Vagisil ads broadcast to my shopping cart because I needed to pick up some feminine product for Lauren. The level of advertising is already too high in this country, we don’t need a way to make easier for them. And that’s just one reason why I don’t like them. The privacy and human ethics subject hasn’t even been brought up yet. As Jason put it those “stupid SUV driving, Big Mac munching, “Friends” watching drones” can kiss my ass. I’m not making it more convenient for them just because they don’t mind selling their souls to the consumer devils. Plus, in the first article, it’s talking about tracking kids when they’re in school. That’s the most incredible violation of civil rights in the past 30 years. No one has the right to track anyone, child or not.
almost forgot…
Chip, no I don’t carry a speed pass. That was my dads and I was using it for that summer so I could get free gas. And nope, no smart keys for my car. Just plain old regular keys.
And yes, the technology is (or will soon) be everywhere. That doesn’t mean I have to agree with it.
I think Chip was refering to me with the SpeedPass thing, which I don’t have anymore. I have no similar devices in my posession.
I take that back. My Cummins ID card for work is technically the same technology.. magnetic induction, blah blah, powers the small ID transmitter built into my card. 🙂
Chip, don’t you have something similar for the MV co-lo office in Manchester? They’re already tracking you! Run! Run to Canada before it’s too late! 😀
Yeah, I carry four such devices on me at all times, my car key, my speedpass, my SimPro door passcard, and my MV colocation access fob. If anyone cared enough to track my movements, they certainly could. Luckily, I am firm in my belief that no one cares where I am.
