A Battlefield 1942 mod called Desert Combat. In my mind it’s completely replaced Counter-Strike as “what a multiplayer game should be”. It’s that good. The game is Co vs Op, or basically CT vs T if you’re still thinking in CS terms. There’s also different styles of play: Cap the flag, Conquest and a few others no one really plays. Conquest is basically a “control point” game where you try and hold bases for as long as possible. The long you do, the lower you opponents score. The team to reach 0 loses. That screen cap if from a Capture the Flag match I played the other day. I did rather well. The final score (the leftish one, “57”) represents both kills and flag capture points (because you get rewarded for “bringin’ it home”).
If you guys haven’t tried it you really need to. Like I said, it’s completely replaced CS for me. I tried to play CS:CZ and even though its heavily updated I just couldn’t get back into it. BF1942 really changed the way I think about levels. They should be big and expansive, with places to hide and STRATEGY involved in winning. Diffusing a bomb might be good, but organizing an assult with tanks , bombers and artillery to take a flag is so much more rewarding.
I don’t get it. What game is this from?
