You traded Nomar?!?! You fucking asshats. What in the hell were you thinking? He went to the Cubs and we didn’t get Sammy F’in Sosa in return? No, we got a shortstop from the Expos and a first-base from the Twins!!! Yeah. Way to upgrade guys. No offense to Expos or Twins fans (if there is such a thing) but what the hell? Sure, trade Nomar for Arod, for Sammy, for Barry GD Bonds, I’d be fine. Damnit. You’d think Jimmy Williams was still there.
Morons.
And, the cherry on this little crap sundae… I got a traffic ticket today. Apparently I was going 45 in a 35 and I had an “obscured license plate”. I don’t even know what the fuck that means. Son of a bitch, now I’ve got to go to court and waste my time fighting a BS ticket. I won’t make the obvious “I wasn’t speeding” statement, I probably was, but I doubt that it was 45. I was in traffic! And don’t even get me started with the license plate thing. The court house web page says it’s a $200 fine. I sure as hell don’t plan on paying that. Heads will roll people. Heads will roll.

Well shit, when you put it that way.
I’m not saying he’s wrong, but that guy had a serious problem with Nomar from day one (read any of the links to the other stories he’s written).
Anyway, I’m excited about that guy whos name I can’t spell. He seems solid. I’m not sure about Cabrera though. Depends on what he does at the plate.
Who knows… but according to Capt. Negative:
“I think more stories are coming. I think Red Sox fans are going to feel very differently (about the trade and about Nomar) one week from now.”
We’ll see.
dude, matt, NOMAR was the asshat.
he’s had a problem with the red sox upper management for years…i’m not sure if it was in the simmons article (that guy, while funny, is NEVER completely on-target when it comes to sports…it’s his job to be funny), but nomar had cut off day-to-day social pleasantries with the rest of the clubhouse and was mouthing off at the media. he had to go.
my pops ran into peter gammons at the airport last week, the day after the trade…and after they exchanged their own pleasantries, my dad asked him about the trade. gammons, the BEST writer in baseball, said that it HAD to happen. nomar was faking injuries, denying it, not playing in big games and then hinting to the press that he wasn’t going to re-sign anyway. the team has sucked at defense, with no help from him anyway…so what’s worse? losing him at the end of the season and not getting anything in return OR getting a couple solid gloves in the infield and having the pleasure of watching nomar (who each member of red sox nation will always love, no matter what happened in the last 12 months) make a run at the world series with the NL team all of us should relate to? i honestly think it was a great deal.
BAD NEWS is that when my dad asked gammons where nomar might end up next year, pete answered with the typical “the cubs’ll want to resign him…he might go home to play for a california team or…”
ready for this?
“…i wouldn’t be a bit surprised to see him playing second for the new york yankees; especially if they don’t win the world series this year.”
from peter gammons to my dad’s ears.
damn.
c’mon sox. c’mon cubbies.
