“CUPERTINO, California—April 5, 2006—Apple® today introduced Boot Camp, public beta software that enables Intel-based Macs to run Windows XP. Available as a download beginning today, Boot Camp allows users with a Microsoft Windows XP installation disc to install Windows XP on an Intel-based Mac®, and once installation is complete, users can restart their computer to run either Mac OS® X or Windows XP.”
I need to collect my thoughts on this one. More on it later…. once again, HOLY CRAP!
Just wait until 10.5 comes out later this year and, if the rumors are true, you’ll be able to run Windows *inside* of OS X.
Come to the Dark Side Matt >:)
a) If I can game on it this will be huge. They need to ditch those god-aweful ati cards first though. If I can’t pull 50fps in a newly released shooter, it’s no good to me. I can check my email, browse the web, etc, on just about anything, but gaming is 99% of my computer usage.
b) I’ll jump ship in a second if A happens and someone drops 5K in my lap. The hardware hardware definatly proven itself to me through other folks (you, nagle), but I couldn’t live with an iBook. It would have to be a screaming powerbook first, and those, well, shit, if I had that much cash I should probably pay off my car first 🙂
Looking at the MacBook Pro page, there’s only one laptop I’d pick…
Macbook Pro:
2.16GHz Intel Core Duo with 2MB shared L2 Cache
667MHz frontside bus
2GB (single SO-DIMM) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
100GB 7200rpm Serial ATA hard drive
Slot-load SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 256MB GDDR3 memory
Price: 3,199.00
ouch!
care to lend me 3200??? early x-mas present maybe. hehe 🙂
HOLLA!
I never thought I’d see the day when you were seriously considering becoming a switcher. If I had a spare grand, I’d sling it your way to help the cause, but alas, I’m still in damned school, hemorrhaging money as we speak.
hehe. Yeah. And I never thought macs would run windows. My ONLY reason for not switching is gaming. Think about all the other stuff I do: make web pages, work in photoshop, update my journal, check email, etc. All things I can do 100% in OSX. I can’t game. Take away that handicap and a Mac becomes 1000% sexier. The only real drawback left is that I can’t build it. I can’t buy Mac pieces and build my own. I like to tinker. So, for the time being, I’m still hardcore PC. But I’m watching it, and, if in a few years, the playing field is a bit more even, I might be persuaded to join the dark side 🙂
