Just a quick heads up. I’m having my host move my account from a server with PHP and MySQL v4 to a new one with v5 of both. There won’t be any physical downtime, but it might take a little while for the DNS to point to the new server. So, if the site disappears for a little bit, it’ll be back shortly.
I’m so late. My bad. Sorry about that. We had a party to get ready for and I had completely forgotten to get the laptop up and running. We’ve got a small group together to kick back and watch the Oscars tonight. Here’s a few of my thoughts (and theirs, just for the hell of it).
Where to start?
I took down the other two smaller videos, combined them into a single video and then added two additional clips. My goal is to upload a clip or two from the game each night and then download them and convert them from FLV to MOV each day. That way, when I hit my clip limit on the skate.reel website, I’ll have all the clips already downloaded and I can upload over the older ones. Eventually, I’d like to build a 5-10 minute video, just for shits and giggles.
Anyway, here’s a comp of 4 different clips. All unedited obviously (from the “pop-ins” and whatnot). I won’t bore anyone with daily uploads, but I’ll post the final one once I have a few minutes worth. But, for now, enjoy…

What do you think? Worth continuing?
I know a few of you are more than familiar with the concept, but it’s aggravation is all the more real when it’s happening to you. I’m working, right this moment, on what I would consider to be my 16th design for a website. Version #1 was nearly perfect. It had all the right elements, elegant use of white space and a nice user interface. Version #2 included a few minor changes from co-workers in my department, all with quality input. By version #5, we were “showing” the design to groups outside the department. That was 4 months ago. Since then, every week, we have a “tag-up” meeting between 2 directors of different departments, the designers (me and my people), the IT guys, the programmers and backend developers and a VP.
So far we’ve been able to establish that we: like buttons, would like the afore mentioned buttons to do things, and that the logo needs to be bigger. Beyond that, all concepts of good design have left the conversation. We actually had a meeting a little while back about what the search function should LOOK like when it displays results. A full blown, hour and a half long meeting, only to establish that, yes, we should have results in some sort of list.
I know many of you sympathize with me, and reading the article on Smashing Magazine today, I know I’m not alone.
What I can say though, is that this project is facing at least 8 of the 10 “harsh truths” of corporate web design. Especially #’s 4 and 6. Holy shit are we knee-deep in 4 and 6.

It’s really hard to tell you exactly how much I love my home state right now, but I love it so very very much.

It’s funny that I grew up in the state that’s at the forefront of “state rights” and is drafting resolutions like that, only to then move to the only state that was once it’s own country, Texas. I think, realistically, these are the only two states that would willingly start a second American revolution. I would support both whole heartily. Go ahead NH, the good’ol boys here in Texas have our back.

Texas, as I predicted, passed their own resolution today. Link (pdf). Awesome. You guys want to start the revolution now or wait a little while and see what happens? Yeah, me too.
