April Mail Day

I have all sorts of loose ends regarding mail these days. I’m finally finished a big project at work and I actually have a minute to collect my thoughts on things and get back to my neglected scanner.

First, a more than overdue thank you to the infamous JayBarkFan, who PWE’d me a couple weeks ago. It was a different address than his usual and there wasn’t a note. Wes, you’ve got to put a little JBF somewhere on there buddy, lol. I only put two and two together when I started seeing other people post about them as well.

PWE_JBF

A trio of 3 very nice ’81 Topps, a 82′ Donruss that’s been well loved, and a 2008 UD Documentary Tek’. Love’em Wes, thanks again!

It’s actually a goal of mine to go back through and finish the 80’s and 90’s, just to say I did. I’m not going to get a set from every company, or more than one set for each year, but I would like to complete that part of my childhood where I completely neglected cards in general.

Pedroia_SpringFever

Next up, going from old to very very new, a nice Pedroia Spring Fever from Topher at Crackin’ Wax. He got the Spring Fever and Silver Slate redemptions in from his S1 case break and this was my loot from those redemption packs. I’ve got the Pedroia and the Williams, just need to find a Middlebrooks to complete the set.

Last up, one of those “bid $0.25 and see if it sticks” sort of things. It stuck. The orange borders were retail and not numbered. One less I need to hunt for the rainbow. Every little bit helps.

Opening Day Card Roster

I actually had this planned for Monday, but my dumb ass forgot the Napoli card I’m about to show off and I didn’t have a chance to get it on the scanner until today. I was also searching to see if I had any cards for Tazawa or Victorino, and I don’t, at all. So, yeah. I’m terrible at this. First and last time I do this? Probably.

Gypsy Queen 2013

So, I had some errands to run, and after hearing rumors of early Gypsy Queen sightings, I made a trip to both my local Walmart and Target. I stuck out at Target (but did find a $11.99 box of Bowman Platinum – a post for later), but Walmart had 4 boxes and a full rack of hangers. I bought 2 boxes and 2 hanger packs, just to see what the White Border paper cards looked like. I beat the odds, got two hits, a SP mini, and I’m really loving these this year.

Sweet Booklet

My last and final foray into National Treasures just arrived in the mail. I picked up a really slick booklet card, another first for me (see yesterday’s printing plate).

Ellsbury_Booklet_Inside

Numbered 14/99 with an incredible green jersey swatch, Jacoby Ellsbury booklet card from Panini National Treasures. The thing I noticed, and I’m not sure how many other people did since these were going for relatively cheap on eBay, is that those green uniforms are only worn once a year. So, if that’s authentic, and I have no reason to think otherwise, that’s from 1 of less than 12 possible games. The Sox have worn a green jersey once each year during Spring Training, on St. Patrick’s Day, since 2004 (9 times) and then only twice during the regular season, both time to celebrate the Celtics. So, that’s a pretty rare jersey, at least by my standards.

As with all these National Treasures cards, presentation is everything and this card is no exception. Gorgeous detail all around, great printing, super thick. Now I just need to find a booklet holder to put this in. A very awesome addition to my PC.

Couldn’t Wait

I was going to wait until tomorrow, but I’ve got a little “Christmas morning” syndrome going on at the moment and I simply can’t wait. Just arrived in the mail 10 minutes ago…

Nice.

And this is the actual card it produced, just for reference.

This is my very first printing plate. I’m super excited to have one, especially for my boy, Danny Bard. This thing looks awesome. This shoots right to the top of the permanent collection, and I just couldn’t wait to show it off.
