This entry could go on and on but I’ll try to keep it brief and stick to the bullet-points.
Hopefully no one has booked plane tickets for Friday yet (Jason and Nagle) because there’s been a slight twist. The rehearsal needs to be pushed up closer to 1-2pm because of scheduling conflicts with the minister. This simply moves the time table forward so dinner would be before 5.
Also, it just occured to me that you guys might not have a ride to the airport once Lauren and I leave. I’ll try to find you rides (my folks are staying in town for a day or two) but someone might consider renting a cheap car. Something to think about.
I move into the apartment this week. It will have no utilities because I can’t contact the electric company because their phone system is messed up. Yippee.
Still no word on where my stuff is. Matt’s getting angry.
Work is good, I have weddings every weekend until, well, my wedding. We just got a new monitor for me, a new graphics card for Paul and a new external DVD writer for both of us. It’s one of the nice Sony duel formats. Very slick.
I need Chip’s Dad’s mailing address. I have an invitation to mail him. Speaking of invitations, they went out earlier this week. You should have them shortly if not already.
I want a Tivo.
Half Life 2 is delayed. Not surprising. That sucks.
I also had some political things to ramble about, but The Screen Savers is on, so it’ll have to wait.
That is all.
For once in my life I am totally lost for words! That you would even consider inviting me to your wedding would be a great honor, that you seem to want to mail me an invitation is totally amazing! The only contact you have ever had with me is through Chip, and this journal – I am deeply humbled. I will e-mail you our new address, and check the calender to see if we can come to Texas for the wedding.
Just talked to Mary (Mrs. ChipsDad) – she is just as amazed!
Any friend (or family) of Chip is certainly a friend of mine. I just got your email. I’ll put the invite in the mail today.
tivo, eh?
you planning on getting DirecTV? if so, you can get a good deal at http://www.orbitsat.com/ on a directivo + multiroom system for super cheap and free pro install.
otherwise you need a standalone. I am quite interested in your plans for home theatre/ tv setup
Ooooh, how about that new Pioneer TiVo box that can burn DVD’s? 🙂
Yes, Tivo indeed. And that Pioneer looks sweet. I’ll probably go for a stand alone unit since Direct TV and a ground floor apartment probably won’t work out. Plus I’m not sure about the apartments policy on things like that. I’d probably like a stand alone unit with a network card so I could get the showtimes that way. Those are just series 2 tivos right? The ones you can’t hack yet? I dunno. I’ve got a spare Cambridge 5.1 cube setup somewhere so that’ll most likely be my sound. My DVD player is pretty much crap so I’ll be looking for a new one of those. The TV is fine and we might get another as a gift from Lauren’s grandparents. But, yeah, I want a Tivo.
I’ll be sure to take pictures once I a) move in and b)after I get my stuff and really move in.
I’ll be pretty borring at the apartment until I get cable and internet. Which probably won’t be for a week or two.
It’ll be interesting to say the least.
I do indeed have a ticket already for friday… it arrives at Houston George Bush Intercont at 8:14AM
You can have ethernet with either Series 1 or Series 2 TiVo’s. Series 1 you have to hack a TiVonet card into them, and I’m not sure you can get programming information that way with them. Series 2 you just plug in a USB->Ethernet adapter, and it takes care of everything for you.
As for “hacking” them, depends what it is you want to hack. Any TiVo can be upgraded with additional drives. There’s currently no way to hack an internal ethernet card into the Series 2, but I don’t think anyone is trying. Also, last time I checked, TiVoweb doesn’t work on Series 2. It allows you to set program recording stuff via a web interface.
you get all the programing information via an ethernet port if you hack a turbonet card into a series 1. That’s how I do it with mine (I don’t have a land line). works very well. very easy as long as you have the 3.0 software installed (built in ethernet drivers)
series 1 and 2 are about the same, aside from the USB ports on the 2 (and the availability of the home media option, which does what tivoweb does in terms of remote programming) S2 also uses TV Guide for listings, afaik.
not sure if the series 2 fixed this, but there’s a 137gb limit per drive on the series 1’s.
The web programming with the home media option actually sucks quite a bit, I hope tivoweb is better. With the HMO, you have to go to TiVo’s website, select a program, and next time your TiVo updates, it gets the new programming. You can’t edit or delete existing recordings.
