Christmas Cards: Part 4 – Olympics

I said it a couple years ago when the last set came out, but it bares repeating: I love the Olympics. The Winter Olympics, especially the hockey and the skiing are by far and away my favorites. So, it was pretty much a no-brainer that I was going to be picking up some 2014 Olympics cards. In 2012, I managed to put together an entire set in just two blasters. This year, while the distribution of cards is equally good, and I only have a small handful of duplicates, sadly I wasn’t able to nail down all 1-100. I managed to only get about 80-85 of them, but I did luck out with two pretty solid hits.

Christmas Cards – Part 2

One of my more significant presents for BirthdaMus was a hobby box of 2013 Gypsy Queen. I had finished the Red Sox set, minus a couple minis, and I had bought a complete set (minus the SPs) from Sam when he was busting boxes. So, those were the two big things I was looking for. Minis and SPs. I didn’t manage a single mini, and only 3 or 4 SPs, but I did get not just my four hits, but one of them was pretty awesome.

Christmas Cards: Part 1

I decided right before the holidays that my PTO hours at work were sufficiently stuffed and that I could simply “take two weeks off” without even making a dent in it. Our PTO rolls over from year to year and I haven’t taken a significant vacation in quite a while. So, I did. I didn’t do ANYTHING. It was awesome. I got in some serious Daddy-Daughter time with my little one, watched some movies, cooked up a lot of BBQ, and generally just “stepped away” from the computer. Now we’re back and before things get wound up for Q1 projects, I figured I’d scan in some of the cards I picked up over the holidays. Having both a birthday and Christmas, I was able to put away a little bit of card money to save for the Houston card show in a couple weeks. The rest I blew on some random pick ups from ebay and a hobby box of Gypsy Queen.

I have no idea why

Honestly, I have no idea why I do these things. I was at Walmart the other day for random stuff and of course I stopped in the card isle. There was nothing worth buying. That didn’t stop me however. $40 later I’m kicking myself for buying useless junk. I bought one of those “Mega” boxes, even though I got skunked on my last one, because random internet strangers keep saying they find good stuff in them. I bought a rack pack of Prizm because I’m a sucker for shiny cards I don’t need. Lastly I bought 2 or 3 discount rack packs ($2.99) of older stuff like 2010 Bowman, 2008 Upper Deck, etc. It’s all crap. I just wanted to open something. We’ve all been there. I’m not proud of it.
