Even CNN is getting into it

CNN

In other news, I’ve got a photo shoot in a half hour. I don’t know how it will go but it should be interesting. I’ve got Matt Ferral and Jason to help out this time so it should add a little “spice” to the mobster mix.

I also forgot to mention that Lauren and I have registered at Target and that it’s available online. Also, the Dillard’s registry is available online.

For Dillards, go here and put in either one of our names.

For Target, go here and put our names into the “Club Wed” section. Also, there, for some weird reason, is two versions of our registry at Target. I’m going to fix that later tonight. I don’t figure anyone is going to be ordering anything within the next 24 hours, but please wait if you do.

That is all.

Half Life 2

Ok, now I’m officially psyched. Usually I don’t buy into hype for games/movies/etc, but this is an exception. I’ll will paste a bit of an article for you. You can read the rest at your lesure or pick up ANY of the computer game magazines May issues hitting stands now. Take a peak:

Half-Life 2 (full name) has been in development since late 1998, ever since Valve has released the original Half-Life. The reason for secrecy? They knew how much the game would mean to their fans, and that’s why they wanted to make it perfect before anyone would know about it. The good part is that the game will be in stores… on September 30, 2003. It will be available through both retailers and Valve’s recently launched pay-per-download client, Steam.

Half-Life 2 takes place in a Eastern European city, called City 17. It happens a short time after the end of the first game. Earth is once again under attack by aliens from Xen, and you, Gordon Freeman (now working for a secret government agency) have to save the day. Valve promises 12 chapters and almost 40 hours of gameplay.

The game is powered by Valve’s in-house developed graphics engine, called Source. The specs of the graphics engine sound very impressive, and Half-Life 2 is sure to give Doom 3 a run for its money. Even more impressive is the scalability of this engine – while to take full advantage of it an Athlon 2Ghz with a GeForce 4 will be needed, the game will be able to run on a P3-700 powered by a DX6 compatible video card.

Yah, I’m happy. 🙂

Matrix on 6 Disks?

There’s an article on IGN about the new “Enter the Matrix” game that comes out next month. It mentions information from an Infogrames rep that the GameCube, Xbox and Playstation 2 versions will be on two disks and have a normal retail price while the PC version will come on 6 disks in a double DVD case and cost “more”. While the number isn’t mentioned I could venture a guess that it’ll be $79 or $89. That’s the usually price for “collectors editions” of big name titles (diablo 2, civ 3, quake 3, etc).

That’s all well and good but unless theres some extra features and a serious increase in graphics quality, I’m still not willing to pay that much for a game. Seriously, what’s on those extra disks? And why make a 6 disk action game in the first place? What good would there be to have 4 Gigs worth of game installed? I’m sure you could reuse a texture or two here and there. Hell, Morrowind is one of the “biggest” games I’ve ever seen (in terms of world size and game play) and it comes on one disk and looks impressive.

From what I’ve read it seems to be a whole mini-movie all on it’s own. All the actors did voices for the game, the directors “directed” the games production and the graphics are supposed to be nifty.

I’m worried that it’s still just Max Payne, only done correctly this time. I’ll of course reserve my personal final judgment for when I actually play the game but I’m really crossing my fingers thats it not some really expensive marketing ploy just to make people go to the movie. Hopefully they’ve made the game an entity on it’s own. We’ll see.

LAN wrapup

It was certainly a fun weekend. Chip and I drove over to Ashland NH to visit with some of my family Saturday morning so we missed a bit of gaming but we were right back into it Saturday night. Chip wasn’t feeling well so I dropped him at the hotel and went back to try and kick some ass in a CS tournament that was starting. Since I didn’t have a “team” I got drafted onto a team made up of [F.o.R] and [LN] players. We didn’t make it far and were taken out in the second round by a much better all-Canadian [F.o.R] team. It was fun though.

This morning we packed up and headed home… after a few rounds of UT2k3 that is. All in all it was a very fun weekend. I haven’t played that many video games in quite some time. I think I’ve probably had my fill for a little while.

Tomorrow, as a Christmas present, my folks got me tickets to the Bruins game in Boston. I get to see the B’s vs. the Devils at 7:00. So, I guess I’ll be spending most of tomorrow in Boston. I’ll probably hit all my favorite spots (Newbury’s, Urban Outfitters, etc) and then head over to the Fleet Center after dinner. It should be fun.

Well, I’m pretty tired so I think I’m going to get some food and take a nap. G’night.

Review: Unreal Tournament 2003

I’ve decided to take a shot at an objective review for Unreal Tournament 2003. Originally my review would have consisted mainly of the word “drool” followed by me passing out. After a hard day of not only playing but beating the entire first person tournament on “Average” I think I can now offer a more diverse opinion into a game that otherwise would have gotten a “go buy this instantly” rating. I don’t say this to suggest in any way that the game is “bad”, quite the opposite, I’m merely setting myself up to be objective.

With that said, I suppose you might actually want to hear about the game. I plan to go into detail so for the first time here I’ll be using the “read more” feature of Moveable Type. That way, those that simply don’t give a crap can continue on with their browsing while you game junkies get your fix.
