Deck? Screw that!

What a fantastic day in carpentry land. For the rest of us however, life sucked. Not only did I work ALL DAY on a damn deck, but I got a sunburn, dehydrated and pissed off. It also rained. Did I mention the rain? Yes, there was a lot of it and it fell… on me. There was wind, lightning and shit flying around. It was fun. I should probabaly mention that we’re building a deck with untreated, unsealed, non-pressure treated wood. We’re also building it next to a giant metal rimmed swimming pool. So, when rain comes we have to first cover the deck with a tarp and then run like hell in case the pool gets hit by lightning. It was also 90 degrees and humid before to decided to rain. It was a very pleasent day of building indeed.

I’m so very very done with just about everything at the moment. Done, as in “fed up with” and not “completely cooked” that is. Those stupid SOBs at Adecco are pretty much ignoring my calls at this point, I’m building a deck for spending money which I’m saving instead, I have no job prospects, no experience, no skills. What the fuck am I doing with my life? Can someone tell me? Because I obviously haven’t figured it out yet. To top it all off, my folks even engaged in a little “career advice” today. Advice consisting of “we’re worried about your choice of profession.” Gee, thanks. Like I didn’t need someone else telling me I’m a stupid fuck up. I do that enough on my own thanks.

Screw it. I’m going to bed. Then I’m going to call Lauren. The one person who still manages to believe in me.

How not to build a deck

Today was deck building day. Huray! The process of building a deck involves many things. Among them: hammers, nails, wood, sweat, physical injury and profanity… in that order. Ok, so it’s not the end of the world, but hitting your thumb with a hammer hurts like you would not believe, unless of course you’ve done it before, in which case you can more than understand the profanity. My belief is, that if you hit yourself with a hammer and you don’t utter some form of explative… you’ve got anger issues. Regardless, work was done on the deck. A few days and it should be done. Whether I’m there for it’s completion is of course, up in the air. Adecco, those tits, have yet to call me back. It’s not for lack of trying however, I’ve called them three times a day for three days.

So, now I’m home, sweaty, dirty and smelling like sawdust. At least my tan is improving I suppose. If you can call “bright red” a tan that is.

Another day… another something…

Well, I talked to Adecco this morning. My temp assignment at the bank ended on Monday but apparently I did such a good job they’re looking to have me go back. The bank manager called and said that she was working on finding a near-permanent position for me for the rest of the summer. It’ll probably take a day or two of figuring out the details but I was told I might be back at the bank by the end of the week. If it doesn’t work out they’re looking at hooking me up with something else. So, I’m hopeful but I know anything could happen and I’m not holding my breath.

This afternoon I also offered to give Jason a ride home from work. He’s lost his driving prividges for various reasons and was stuck in Chelmsford. Dinner was my reward and I indulged in a very tender filet at Longhorn Steakhouse. It really hit the spot. I hadn’t had real meat in a while. We’ve done burgers on the grill over the past few weeks, but nothing compairs to a tasty steak every once and a while. Yum.

Oh, and I also did a little graphic design for Chip today. He’s currently working on a redesign for www.chocobo.cx and was looking for a logo/banner graphic. I happen to like doing that sort of thing so I whipped a little something up. You can keep checking his site and I’m sure he’ll let you know if he’ll be using it or not. Since it technically his logo, I’ll let him link it if he wants to. If he wants to keep it a secret until the finished redesign, he can do that to.
